4largefirm applessuch as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Pink Lady
1cupfull-fat milk
1cupplain flour
4tablespoonssugardivided
1tablespooncornstarch
1.5teaspoonsground cinnamondivided
1/4cupvegetable oilfor frying
Instructions
Peel and remove the core from the apples, then cut them into sticks, about ½ to ¾ inches wide. Place the apple pieces in a bowl, pouring the milk over them. Gently stir to coat all slices. Set aside.
In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, cornstarch, 1 tbsp of sugar, and 1 tsp of cinnamon. Set aside.
In a separate small dish, blend 3 tbsp of sugar with ½ tsp of cinnamon. Stir until combined, then set aside for later.
Take several apple slices at a time from the milk, shake off the excess, and dredge them in the flour mixture. Make sure each slice is evenly coated, then place them on a tray. Repeat until all slices are coated.
Heat ¼ cup of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Prepare a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil after frying. Once the oil is ready, fry the coated apples in batches of 6-8 slices, cooking each side for about 1-2 minutes, until golden.
After frying, transfer the apple slices to the paper towel-lined plate. While still warm, sprinkle with the cinnamon-sugar mixture prepared earlier.
Repeat frying and sprinkling for the remaining apple slices. Serve warm and enjoy your crispy apple fries!
