Wash and pat dry the asparagus spears. Take each spear and bend it gently until it snaps at the natural breaking point. This is where you should trim the rest. Discard the tough ends and set the trimmed spears aside.
Arrange a breading station with three shallow dishes: one with 1/2 cup of flour, one with the beaten egg, and one with a mixture of panko and seasoned breadcrumbs.
Coat each asparagus spear in flour first, then dip it into the egg, and finally roll it in the breadcrumb mixture. Shake off any excess.
Place the coated spears on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Lightly spray them with cooking spray.
Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Arrange a single layer of the asparagus in the air fryer basket and cook for 7 minutes.
Carefully remove the cooked spears using tongs. Continue to air fry the remaining spears in batches until all are crispy.
