Candy Coated Popcorn

Bag it up, tie with a ribbon and it’s a delicious holiday gift for young and old alike!

Ingredients:

  • 20 cups popped corn
  • 1 cup parched peanuts
  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda

Directions:

Bring butter (or margarine), brown sugar, corn syrup and molasses to a boil for 5 minutes.

Stir occasionally.

Remove from heat and add the baking soda. Stir until it foams up.

Pour over the popcorn and peanuts in a large baking pan.

Bake for one hour at 250 degrees. Stir every 15 minutes.

Turn out onto wax paper to cool.

Cool 10-15 minutes until hardened and not sticky.

Should break easily into bite size pieces.
