Even though lime and lemon are similar in appearance because they belong to the same citrus family, the truth is they are very different. The scientific name for lemons is Citrus Lemon and for limes is Citrus Aurantifolia. The first difference between the fruits is their size, lemons are noticeably larger than limes. Another thing that is different is their taste, lemons have a sour taste while limes can be bitter or sweet.

Lemons come in oval shape and limes are round, with some limes being oval as well. Both fruits are extremely rich in vitamin C, but lemons have twice the amount of the vitamin in them.

The average lemon contains 53 mg. of vitamin C and the average lime contains 29 mg. of vitamin C. Lemons are also richer in folate and potassium, but limes have more vitamin A.
The two fruits mostly differ in their nutritional content. Both are rich in vitamin C, A, folate, potassium, flavonoid, and antioxidants and have been shown to prevent cancer.

The fruits contain limonoids which fight carcinogenic compounds in the body. They’re both alkalizing in nature, which means that they’re efficient at removing toxins from your body.
According to doctors, toxin accumulation in your body can often result in inflammation and cause further complications and health conditions such as type-2 diabetes and heart disease.

All in all, both fruits are highly delicious and beneficial for your overall health. In order to maintain a perfect health, it is recommended that you implement both limes and lemons in your daily.
