My mouth starts to water just looking at this wonderful homemade bread. If you have never attempted to make bread before, please don’t be intimated. This makes two loaves, which is a good thing because one won’t last long fresh from the oven. Wish there was a smell button for you to push, my home smells so good right now.
Amish White Bread
Ingredients
- 6 cups flour
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 2/3 cup white sugar
- 1 1/2 tbsp yeast
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 2 cups water
Instructions
- In a large bowl add sugar, water and yeast. Stir to combine.
- Let sit for 5 to 15 minutes.
- Add salt, oil, 3 cups flour and mix well.
- Add remaining flour.
- Dust a surface with flour and turn out dough. Knead for 5 minutes.
- Place in a greased bowl and let rise for one hour.
- Punch down dough and divide in half. Jelly roll your dough and place in sprayed baking pans.
- Let rise for one hour.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.
- Brush tops with butter if desired.
