Most of us have forgotten to defrost meat in time for dinner at one time or the other. I usually take my meat out of the freezer the night before or the morning of, but sometimes, the kids are a handful to deal with, and I forget. When that happens, it’s usually always takeout for dinner, but thankfully I found this neat trick online.
In the video below, America’s Test Kitchen shows us a fail-proof way to defrost meat. It works with beef, chicken, and pork. Best of all, it’s really easy to do, and it’s fail-proof.Set your meat aside on the counter, and heat up a pot of water. It doesn’t have to boil, but there should be some bubbles at the bottom of the pot. You want this to be warmer than tap water.
Then, place your meat inside a Ziploc bag. Submerge it in the hot water for about 12 minutes. Once done, you can cook the meat like normal.
She notes that you should never leave the meat in the water for more than 45 minutes. Most meats will take 12 minutes to defrost, so this is a huge time-saver!
